Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s Preferred Probiotic Supplement Brand

Dr. Rhonda Patrick Probiotic Supplement Choice

Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s current probiotic brand is Visbiome. She started taking this supplement, which is manufactured by ExeGi Pharma, in 2016 after being a long-time user of VSL#3.

Visbiome contains a top-secret probiotics recipe. Known as the De Simone Formulation, this blend was invented in the 1990s by Professor Claudio De Simone, a pioneer in the research of gut bacteria. The eight-strain probiotic recipe is backed by over 75 clinical trials and has been discussed in over 150 publications.

Benefits of Visbiome

As the subject of over 75 clinical trials on humans, Visbiome has been shown to be effective in the management of several intestinal disorders, including hepatic encephalopathy, irritable bowel syndrome, pouchitis, and ulcerative colitis.

Even if you don’t suffer from one of these conditions, taking probiotics can help you in other ways. Probiotics can help you better digest food so you get the most benefit from vitamins and nutrients. They can also help keep bad bacteria in check and strengthen your immune system to prevent illness.

Unlike many other probiotics, Visbiome ships its products with cold packs to maintain potency. This means that when you are promised 250+ billion bacteria per serving, that’s what you’re actually getting.

Visbiome probiotics are designed for people from all walks of life. To meet allergen and dietary restrictions, this probiotic is:

  • Low-FODMAP certified
  • Non-GMO
  • Vegetarian
  • Kosher
  • Cornstarch-free
  • Gluten-free
  • Lactose-free

Dr. Rhonda Patrick Visbiome Dosage

Dr. Rhonda Patrick prefers the powdered version of Visbiome. This is the version that contains 450 billion bacteria per serving. She believes that adding the probiotics to water or food (particularly yogurt) boosts the potency of the blend.

Currently, Rhonda Patrick takes a maintenance dose of Visbiome, described as one powder packet every one to two weeks. She has noted that when she was breastfeeding, she took one packet per day.

What Happened to VSL#3?

If you’re a long time follower of Dr. Rhonda Patrick, you may remember that she used to take the probiotic VSL#3. She made the switch to Visbiome in 2016.

At the time, Rhonda Patrick noted that Visbiome was made using the same formula (the De Simone Formulation) as VSL#3 but at a lower price. Considering that Dr. Simone’s recipe was secret, there had to be more to the story.

What actually happened was that Dr. Simone ended his years-long partnership with Alfasigma, the manufacturers of VSL#3, and signed a new contract with the makers of Visbiome.

VSL#3 remained on the market, but Dr. Simone insisted that Alfasigma was making fraudulent claims: It was marketing VSL#3 as the same product it had always been, despite no longer having access to Dr. Simone’s recipe.

In 2018, a three-judge panel found Alfasigma guilty of false advertising for passing off its new formula as the old one. The verdict was upheld by an appeals court in 2021.

VSL#3 is still available for purchase, but it now has a different formulation and label.

wow, that's an expensive one and virtually no reviews, i'm seeing a pattern with all these people; joe, tim, rhonda, dom, etc. they keep advertising products that seem suboptimal, i get that they too need to make money, but i'm kind of losing faith here.

Hi, I recently had a baby and my natural water big didn't work out. After 72 hours, I had to have a emergency cs. I was wondering if I can take this while breast feeding? Thank you so much.
